LIGHTNING PROTECTION OF AN OFFICE BUILDING "RUSSIAN POST"

There are no special requirements for lightning protection of office buildings in the AD. But it’s important for designers to remember that the office is the “visiting card” of any large organization, so lightning protection should not spoil its appearance. This nuance was taken into account by the engineers of the ZANDZ Technical Centerwhen they were given the task to calculate lightning protection for one of the office buildings of the Russian Post company. Our experts located lightning rods inside the perimeter of the roof so that they were not too noticeable from the street and did not change the exterior of the building.

Another feature of this project is the low resistance of the grounding device. The office building is large in perimeter, and since the project involves laying a grounding contour along its entire length, the grounding resistance is less than 1 ohm.

Any lightning rod is effective only when installed significantly higher than the protected object. In case of a lightning mesh this condition is neglected. On a flat reinforced concrete roof, it is only a few centimeters above the grounded metal reinforcement in the slab. Lightning simply does not "notice" such a difference in height. Therefore, reinforcement and mesh take almost equal number of strokes.
