Modular grounding is designed for the installation of grounding devices (the grounds) at residential buildings (houses or cottages), mobile and fixed telecom operators or energy facilities, as well as industrial enterprises.

Such ground is an assembled structure consisting of interconnected steel rods having a length of 1.5 meters covered with a layer of copper.

 

Modular grounding advantages

The advantages of modular rod design are:
the ease of elecrode installation up to a depth of 30 meterswithout the use of special machinery or tools. All operations are carried out by one person. A greater depth means a very effective grounding.
Small area occupied by the grounding devices allows to install them in the basements of houses or near the walls just as one spot. The compact size minimizes earthwork volumes.

  • All parts are connected without welding *
  • The commercial-scale production of the parts means the following:
  • excellent corrosion resistance of all parts, resulting in the service life of up to 100 years.
  • full resistance of copper-bonded rods to mechanical damage (e.g., bending and bond liftoff) during installation, which allows carrying out installation works in soils containing gravel or small particles of construction debris

(thanks to the technology of electrolytic deposition of copper  to steel).

Grounding kits

Various ready-made components of ZANDZ modular grounding kits with required specifications (e.g. to acheive a required value of grounding resistance). Such kits include all the parts necessary for the installation of a grounidng rod.

All components are easily connected to each other.

Such off-the-shelf kits are manufactured in five varieties that differ in the total length of rods, designation and contents:

ZZ-000-015 -

A universal ground for the installation as a modular electrode: one device for a depth of 15 m or three devices for a depth 5 m each
(4.5+ 4.5+6 m).

It is used as a ground with a low spreading resistance and as a lightning protection ground at a certain facility.

 


 

ZZ-000-030 -

Universal grounding device for the installation as a modular electrode: one electrode for a depth of 30 m or three electrodes for a depth of 10 meters each
(10.5+10.5+9 m).

It is used as a grounding device with a very low spreading resistance and as a lightning protection device.

 


 

ZZ-000-045 -

A multi-electrode ground consisting of 15 assembled ground electrodes for a depth of 3 m each.

This is used as a distributed ground with a low touch voltage.

A ground for the installation at containerized telecom and energy supply facilities 
(4 assembled electrodes 6 m each).

Threaded copper-bonded ground rod

Threaded copper-bonded ground rod (D14; 1.5 m)

This is a drawn steel rod with a diameter of 14 mm and a length of 1.5 meters covered with 99.9%  purity copper using electrolytic deposition method to form a coating of molecular and unbreakable bond with steel.

In addition to its role as a conductor, high-quality steel in this ground performs a mechanical role necessary to drive the electrode into the soil. The rods have a high tensile strength of 600 N / mm², and can be driven to a greater depth (up to 40 meters) into the soil using a jackhammer .

The thickness of copper bonding is at least 0.250 mm throughout the entire length of the rod (including the thread). This ensures the coating's resistance to bending, peeling and scratching during installation. This is especially important for the thread where a thinner layer of copper would be completely destroyed by loads and friction with the coupler when the rod is driven into the soil.

These features guarantee a high corrosion resistance and ensure the ground rods long service life (up to 100 years).

Threads at the sides of each rod were formed by a roll threading process for the interconnection of rods through a coupler.

This brass coupler is used for the interconnection of rods. It is made in such a way that the rods come into contact with each other in the very center of the coupler and the energy necessary to drive the rods into the soil is not not transferred to the coupler. Thus, there is no shock pulse "scattering" and mechanical stress is taken away from the coupler.

Driving head for a jackhammer tup

The head facilitates driving the ground rods and increases the operational safety of both people and tools.

The head is attached to the ground rod through a coupler during installation. The head sizes are selected in such a way that the driving force does not damage the coupler, i.e. the impact impulse is transmitted directly to the rod, not to the coupler.

This is a stainless steel profiled clamp with M10 bolts. It allows connecting a copper-bonded rod to a grounding conductor, i.e. to a round cross-section wire or strip (40 mm wide).

The safe use of steel and galvanized wire is possible. For that purpose, a gasket is put inside the clamp, which prevents the formation of electrochemical binding between steel / zinc and copper.

To prevent loosening of "bolt-nut" threaded joints spring washers are used ( Grover washers) installed between the clamping surface and the nut.

The paste is used to reduce the electrical resistance between the rods and couplers, as well as for added corrosion protection of the rod ends (in the coupler). The paste is also used for the guiding head to facilitate its removal after a rod was driven. During installation, the paste is applied to the threaded parts.

Waterproofing tape

The tape is used to protect the connection of rod and grounding conductor from electrochemical and soil corrosion by complete displacement of water (moisture) from the connection point to make corrosion impossible. The tape retains its physical and mechanical qualities for many years.

It is made of non-woven synthetic fiber material, impregnated and coated with a neutral compound based on a saturated oil hydrocarbon (petrolatum) and an inert silicon-containing filler. The tape remains soft under the influence of a wide range of temperatures. It does not harden or crack. The tape is highly resistant to mineral acids, alkali, salts and microorganisms, highly hermetical against water, steam and gas.

Only conductor connection clams are protected using the tape.
