What distance should be between the down conductors according to TCO 336-2011?

Dear friends! We continue to share interesting questions from our customers and the responses to them. This time, the question is about the requirements for lightning protection "at what distance according to the document TCO 336-2011 * should down conductors be located, for example, for lightning protection class III?"

*TCO 336-2011 - technical code "Lightning protection of buildings, structures and engineering equipment", acting on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.

telecommunications engineering

Here's the answer!

The instruction is contained in the document EN (IEC) 62305-3, but this distance is defined as "typical", ie "standard", "usual", which is recommended for observation when installing down conductors. This  distance between the down conductors is referred to as "average" in the similar chart in the IS 153-34.21.122-2003.

The indication of "minimum" distance does not oblige to comply with the values given in the chart. It would be much more logical to indicate such distance as "maximum". It turns out that the TCO 336-2011 contains incorrect wording, probably due to a misunderstanding of this issue by the translators and the authors of the document. The distance between the down conductors specified in this chart should be regarded as "standard".
