A webinar with Prof. Eduard M. Bazelyan "Issue of Lightning Protection Improvement" was held on December 18. Relevant issues and challenges faced by the modern lightning protection were discussed during the webinar. The participants considered key aspects affecting reliability and efficiency of the lightning protection systems, and shared the ideas of the ways to improve them.
Main webinar topics:
- Assessment of the lightning arrester reliability. It was noted that modern calculations of the lightning protection do not take into account its current.
- Lightning current statistics. The participants emphasized that the data of the International Organization CIGRE used in many standards are limited.
- Efficient height of lightning arresters. The issue of inconsistencies between the regulatory documents determining the height of lightning arresters was discussed.
- Grounding resistance. A special attention is paid to the discussion of a driver of change of the grounding resistance when affected by lightning pulse currents.
- Effect of lightning current on humans. The participants raised the issues of assessment of effects of the lightning current on the human body, emphasizing the lack of development in the area.
