On June 26, 2024, a webinar was held with the participation of D.Sc. (Eng.), Prof. Eduard M. Bazelyan.
Any metallic communication is a high-risk element in lightning protection because it can transmit lightning overvoltage over long distances. However, the defining word "underground" is included in the title. Such communication is not alarming, intuitively. There is a false illusion created by the enduring habit of believing that grounded is safe! The webinar will cover all particularly dangerous manifestations of overvoltage transport over such communications, with a focus on the consequences for the human body.
It is critical to be able to consistently protect against lightning ignition of flammable gas emissions into the atmosphere. It is even more important to rule out the possibility of such a hazardous event occurring directly in the coal mine face. Furthermore, no one would regard a lightning strike that explodes a gas distribution point as a minor emergency. The danger of accidentally touching a piece of iron that has come out of the ground and is therefore clearly earthed is beyond the belief of even a professional. Such a touch is completely ordinary and almost automatic.
The webinar is intended to challenge people's perceptions of the safety of underground utilities. It is particularly crucial today that experts have access to data regarding the current levels in the human body that cause heart fibrillation, a condition that is not only life-threatening but also presents in a totally unpredictable manner. A warning is a weapon.
Speaker: E. M. Bazelyan, Dr. Sc. (Eng.), professor; Krzhizhanovsky Energy Institute, Moscow.
