Hamilton North School staff from New Zealand told about the incident, which occurred in the middle of a working day and was accompanied by a strong heat flash and a big explosion. About 13:30 local time, lightning struck the goalposts on a rugby field and then jumped to the school building.
After the incident, four school employees had to be taken to a hospital for examination. In addition, all smoke detectors in the building and some other security sensors, as well as several computers and office equipment, were damaged by a lightning strike.
Fortunately, this time no one was seriously injured. But this incident once again proves that buildings with a large crowd of people must be equipped with a lightning protection system.
