HOW TO PROTECT AGAINST DIRECT LIGHTNING STRIKES?

 Spline Ball Terminal

Spline Ball Terminal® (SBT) is the improved lightning protection technology developed by Lightning Eliminators & Consultants, Inc. (LEC) and the alternative to standard intercepton rods of existing external lightning protection systems.

Unlike traditional lightning rods that are designed to receive lightning on them and divert the lightning current to the ground the SBT system is designed as a hybrid simultaneously reducing the risk of direct lightning strikes and operating as a standard lightning receiver.

In the main mode SBT lightning protection reduces the risk of direct lightning strikes due to the effect called charge transfer that ensures a constant exchange of ions between air and the ground. This ionization function helps maintaining the local electric field below the lightning potential organizing reliable object protection from direct lightning strikes. Physically lightning cannot form and take place in these conditions.

During thunderstorm Spline Ball Terminal lightning protection acts as a highly efficient interception rod safely collecting and diverting lightning currents that could not be prevented to the ground.

The unique design of SBT also allows collecting incoming lightning strikes from any side of the entrance creating a large protection area, unlike standard external lightning protection systems that collect lightning from one side of the entrance.

Advantages of Spline Ball Terminal:

  • double protection;
  • easy installation;
  • stainless steel construction;
  • light weight, low wind profile;
  • minimum risk to property and people;
  • included in the list of permitted lightning protection systems.
