Webinar recording: "lightning protection of low- to medium-rise structures with continuous curtain wall glazing"

On August 6, a webinar on "Lightning Protection of Ordinary-Height Structures with Continuous Curtain Wall Glazing" took place, presented by Professor E. M. Bazelyan. The webinar covered the features of lightning protection for buildings up to 150 m high with continuous curtain wall glazing.

Issues addressed during the webinar included:

  • The impact of downward lightning flashes on side walls and window openings.
  • The limited effectiveness of overhead ground wire for protecting the upper parts of walls.
  • The role of an insulating glass unit (IGU) with grounded reinforcement as a barrier in the path of a lightning channel.
  • Requirements for the geometry of insulating glass units to prevent sparkover.
  • Organization of laboratory testing of insulating glass units.

Speaker: E. M. Bazelyan, Dr. Sc. (Eng.), professor; Krzhizhanovsky Energy Institute, Moscow.
